AURORA, ZAMBOSUR—Mayor Enrique Cabahug Jr. has turned over ten newly built housing units to beneficiaries of the Gawad Kalinga (GK) of the Couples of Christ (CFC).

Attending the turnover ceremony, Nov. 27, are Joe Vivero, CFC chapter head-GK project director, Leo Acenas, GK head, Ed Beltran, Elizabeth Ravanes, CFC household leader, members of the Muslim Christian and Lumad Interfaith of Aurora (MUCLIA) and Fr. Rey Jaictin, assistant parish priest.

The said houses were built in collaboration with the municipal government under Cabahug’s medium development plan, which aims to erect houses for the poor in Sitio Pacatan, Brgy. Alang-Alang.

The said area is about three hectares acquired by the municipal government, which was originally intended as the location of the district jail and the town’s dumping site.

Cabahug said he saw the area’s pontential for his rural housing program to be called “Aurora Socialized Housing with a Heart.”

Beneficiaries listed and the pioneering dwellers in the area are those affected in road widening project along the national highway during the construction of rotunda.

These residents, added the mayor, will also receive income generating livelihood projects as he lauded participating NGOs and the private sector in this so-called community building.

Lately, a memorandum of agreement was signed between the local government and GK for the construction of decent rural houses to underprivileged and homeless citizens.

The funding counterpart of the local government is already incorporated in the town’s annual budget in the total amount of P300,000 aside from the P700,000 already poured in.
