PAGADIAN CITY—In an effort to address unemployment problems in the city and intensify full employment promotion and equal job opportunities, Mayor Samuel Co recently institutionalized this city’s PESO.
PESO stands for Public Employment Service Office, a non-fee charging multi-employment service facility established pursuant to RA 8759, the PESO Act of 1999.
PESO special services include jobs fairs, livelihood and self-employment bazaars, special credit assistance for placed overseas workers, special program for employment of students and out-of-school youth, the Work Appreciation Program and Workers Hiring for Infrastructure Projects, among others.
In his attendance to the Tripartite Industrial Peace Council Strategic Planning Workshop and Installation of Officers, Co disclosed that he signed EO No.132 institutionalizing the PESO.
DOLE Regional Director Ponciano Ligutom, in his speech during the affair, said that Co followed the move of then Dipolog Mayor Robert Uy.
Citing the importance of the partnership between DOLE and the LGUs through its respective PESO, Ligutom declared that he would campaign in the whole region for the institutionalization of all PESO.
Meanwhile, PESO Manager and Federated PESO chair Engr. Vince Quipot told this paper the success of their office depends on the support of local executives.
DOLE cited both Co and Quipot as top regional performers and nominated them to the 2008 National Best PESO Award (Component City Category).
