PAGADIAN CITY—A total of P182.7-million have been spent for some 219 projects in seven towns by Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Service (Kalahi-CIDSS).

Implemented in 2003, KALAHI - CIDSS is a community-driven development project that aims to empower communities through their enhanced participation in projects that reduce poverty.

The said project aims to cover 25 percent of those classified as poorest places in the 42 identified poorest provinces of the country.

Community grants were used to support the building of low-cost, productive infrastructure such as roads, water systems, clinics, and schools.

In Zamboanga del Sur, Kalahi-CIDSS project term will end this month but 209,511 residents now enjoy the fruit of its labors.

Kalahi-CIDSS community process specialist Elpidio Lapad told media in a short tour to their project communities in Lakewood and Bayog that the two municipalities were part of their effort as well as Dinas, Lapuyan, Dumingag, Midsalip and San Pablo.

Lapad explained that the establishment of a water system was the project being implemented in the said places since it is the most felt-need.

Of the 203 barangays under Kalahi, 57 prioritized water systems were set up with Lapuyan getting most and Midsalip getting only four.

Some of the finished projects are road improvements in 43 villages; 26 barangay health stations, 23 school buildings, 16 day-care centers, 14 multipurpose driers and eight road constructions and a truck after.

The projects were realized through a counter-parting scheme by the respective LGUs and Kalahi-CIDSS.

Governor Aurora Cerilles, for her part, lauded Kalahi-CIDSS for the complementary support to the mentioned towns.
