Some 141 pregnant women and 138 breastfeeding mothers with their babies flocked together at the Provincial Capitol, July 15, for the 34th Nutrition Month celebration.
This year’s theme is “Sa wastong nutrisyon ni mommy, siguradong healthy si baby.”
The Provincial Nutrition Committee’s technical working group was expecting at least 200 participants for the two groups but many enthusiastic mothers came in droves.
Two activities were held that day, the “preggy leisure walk” and mass breastfeeding.
Provincial Nutritionist and Dietician Joy Dajao did her talk on the importance of proper nutrition before, during and after pregnancy.
Would-be mothers were told to follow a suggested diet and check their weight.
Then they were given Vitamin A and Iron supplements and vegetables, courtesy of the provincial offices of health and agriculture.
Provincial Nutrition Action Officer Estrella Esma said the program is in line with the National Millennium Development Goal 5, which is to reduce maternal deaths.
