A Tax Update Seminar was conducted, July 25, at Hotel Camila, by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)-9 as initiated by the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (Picpa), provincial accountant Bernadette Ordoñez said.
The said seminar is one of the highlights of Accountancy Week, celebrated July 20-26, and participated by the city and provincial chapters of Picpa.
This year’s theme is, “Vision in One.”
Ordoñez, chairman of the event, said those who participated are accountants, taxpayers, withholding agents and bookkeepers.
Discussed were the concerns related to the implementation of the pertinent provisions of RA 9504, an Act amending Sections 22, 24, 34, 35 and 79 of RA 8424, also known as the National Internal Revenue Code.
Ordoñez described this Code as relative to the withholding of income tax on compensation income, increases in personal and additional exemptions, compensation received by minimum wage earners and other concerns.
Other activities held during the week included an ecumenical celebration in various churches, motorcade, membership meeting, and Accountancy students’ activities and a get-together with all CPAs in the academe and those in private practice from all over the province.
Picpa concluded their celebration with a feeding event at San Pedro Elementary School last Sunday.
