LABANGAN, ZAMBOSUR—The eight day celebration of the 59th Charter Anniversary of this town recently concluded with a bang.
The celebration started July 12 and ended with the charter day program, July 20, with Diana conducted by the Tabak Brass Band, then the cultural parade and the program proper.
The respective local and national government employees participated in the Cultural Parade along with the teachers from the various national high schools and the 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division Philippine Army.
The 1st IB headquarters is located at Upper Pulacan in this town.
One of the highlights of the celebration was the Cultural Cluster Booths representing the cultures of the tribes in the municipality: the Maguindanao, Samal, Tausog, Iranon, Ilocano, Ilongo, Bisaya and Subanen.
“In this 59th charter day celebration of Labangan with the theme Kasipagan at Kapayapaan, Tungo sa Maunlad na Pamayanan, this is the first time that we have these cultural booths to show to the public that the people in Labangan are united by way of preserving and loving our culture because this is our own,” Mayor Abubakar Afdal said in his speech.
Afdal gave citation awards to distinguished residents who have extended their all-out support for the success of the celebration and for their contribution to the projects and development in the municipality.
Governor Aurora Cerilles’s message was likewise read by Board Member Baldomero “Baleleng” Fernandez while Rep. Victor Yu of the first district gave his, through his chief of staff Maffy Obaob.
Other guests were Lt. Col. Agane Adriatico, chief of the Philippine Army, DPAO and B/Gen. Vicitacion, who represented Tabak Division Chief M/Gen. Nehemias Pajarito.
