A government employee and five other students were caught in a raid conducted by the city police last week, in a move to strengthen its fight against illegal drug abuse.

Belated information relayed to MINDANAO MONITOR stated the raid was led by SPO1 Eugenio Sayson and the military at Sto. Niño District, in a house located at Purok Capitol Creek.

There, police discovered a certain Arnel Balucan Escalante and five other students having a pot session inside the house.

Escalante, a resident of Purok Sentro, Brgy. Gubang, is said to be a messenger and an escort to the chief of staff of Mayor Samuel Co.

The students arrested were all STI sophomores. They were identified as Bramsy Calunsag Sagun, Julius Cesar Pueblo Dimaporo, Johnard Sepada Magallanes, Danlugan, Jeffrey delos Santos Wapili and Ronilo Teñajora Allo.

Police confiscated from the suspected drug addicts several quantities of drug paraphernalia and one shabu sachet.

Police Chief Inspector Reynaldo Maclang said the raid was a result of the participation of residents in the so-called “Ugnayan sa Barangay” he mobilized a few months back.

Ugnayan sa Barangay is a sort of pulong-pulong between the police and village officials in their effort to solve the malingering problem of peace and order and related criminalities and pinpoint drug users and peddlers in the barangay.

It can be recalled that Co made his warning to employees not to be involved in illegal drug use or whatever, following a resolution from the city council to have all government employees undergo a random drug testing, which also included policemen.
