DAVAO CITY: TESDA-Davao del Norte participated in the synchronized breastfeeding last Aug. 8, in line with the “Synchronized Breastfeeding Worldwide” Program organized by Nurturers of the Earth, Philippines.

Fifty breastfeeding mothers gathered at Brgy. Apokon Gym, Tagum City to join the worldwide count by city/site and nation to set a record in the Guinness World Record.

The occasion was graced by the Brgy. Chairman of Apokon, Hon. Gomer Conde and Brgy. Kagawad, Hon. Gloria IbaƱez as witnesses.

The activity is aimed to gather the most number of mothers that will breastfeed at exactly the same local time in different time zones, to make a permanent and on-going roster of the national records of each nation on simultaneous breastfeeding in a single site and in multiple sites, to establish cooperation between nations with each nation competing with its own record, to nurture a fellowship among breastfeeding mothers, and to establish simultaneous breastfeeding as a form of universal prayer for peace and thanksgiving for the gift of motherhood and breastfeeding.

This activity was made possible through the strong efforts of people behind the organizer, Nurturers of the Earth, Philippines – a vegetarian support group that promotes earth-friendly parenting and lifestyle, and other partners: World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action, Children for Breastfeeding, Inc., Philippines, UNICEF, Department of Health (DOH), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Sponsorship or participation of any company manufacturing milk products, baby food, teats, bottles and pacifiers was strictly prohibited. To ensure that the site will not be disqualified based on the guidelines set by the Guinness Record, a bag and body inspection was conducted before the registration.
