OROQUIETA CITY: Public and private schools in the towns of Jimenez and Bonifacio, this province, recently received books from Gov. Loreto Ocampos, a press release from the Capitol said.

The said books are part of the 16,000 volumes donated by Children International - Philippines Housing Foundation, Inc. (CI-PHFI) and is the second batch to arrive here.

According to its website, the CI-PHFI mission is to help children living in dire poverty, "providing needy children with a variety of programs and services to meet their basic needs, enhance their human dignity and raise their physical and educational levels in a meaningful, lasting way."

Last year, some 17,000 volume books were also donated by the CI-PHFI to Misamis Occidental, where CI-PHFI Director and Program Manager Dr. Divine Ramirez graced the ceremonial turn-over of the donated books held at the Provincial Cultural Farmers Training Center (PCFTC) at the Capitol Complex.

The said books, were given to 12 public libraries around the province for use as student references.

The project is contained in the so-called "Target 1000 blue-print of our CHAMPS program," Ocampos stressed.

The recepient public libraries are those of Baliangao, Calamba, Plaridel, Misamis Occidental Provincial Library, Aloran, Pana-on, Jimenez, Sinacaban, Tudela, Ozamiz, Oroquieta and Tangub cities.

Ramirez has pledged that CI-PHFI will try their best to release the next batch of books intended for the schools under the Divisions of Ozamiz City, Tangub City, and Misamis Occidental.

The Provincial Government thanked the CI-PHFI for their generosity in giving the books. "The public, most specially the students, must take advantage of these books by taking their time to read. These books are the one of the best educational materials," Ocampos said.

All the books came in a 40-footer container van.
