Four LTO offices get ISO approval

FOUR LTO regional offices recently passed the third external party appraisal conducted by auditors and are now ISO classified or that which complied with the International Organization for Standardization consulting and assessment.

An ISO classified agency means that it has eliminated red tape, bureaucracy, reduced the time taken to acquire a certification and reduced management time required.

Land Transportation Office assistant regional director Mohammad Yusop Lamping, in a visit at his office, identified the LTO regional agencies as the district licensing offices of Pagadian, Ipil, the Driver License Renewal District Office in Zamboanga City and the LTO extension office in Molave, this province.

These offices, Lamping added, composed the first batch that sought the regulatory ISO compliance.

This leaves the district offices of Dipolog and Isabela cities as well as the extension offices of Sindangan in Zamboanga del Norte and Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay as the ones left without an ISO quality management and control system certification at present.

But Lamping assured these offices will go through various auditing process before the third party ISO external audit by January, next year.

Two audits—the first one, also called gap assessment, will be conducted by LTO central office while the second, which is the internal audit, will be performed by LTO-9 Regional Management Office and LTO Central Office Manila before the final assessment will be made.

In Pagadian alone, Lamping said the ISO certification will boost LTO’s capability in servicing the public since city is a regional center and this means a lot in standard of quality, professional service.

It was learned that both Gov. Aurora Cerilles and Mayor Samuel Co will be attending the awarding ceremony later this month at the Department of Transportations and Communications (DOTC) office in Manila.

In more news, LTO regional director Aminola Abaton disclosed their office has surpassed target collections leading to an increase of 10 percent as compared to last year’s.

Abaton said the overall figures relate to the registration of motor vehicles and issuance of driver’s licenses.

“This is a good indication that the motor vehicle owners are responding well in our campaign against unregistered motor vehicles,” Abaton beamed.

Likewise, the LTO Pagadian District Office improved their target collection by 15 percent for the period of November and December alone as compared to 2008.

Abaton attributes these developments to the implementation of ISO system in their district and extension offices around the region.
