MILF area leader killed in encounter

DINAS, ZAMBOSUR—A routine reconnaissance patrol conducted by the military along Brgy. Zambulawan, this town resulted into a firefight with suspected MILF members after the soldiers were fired upon.

After 15 minutes, the MILF rebels then withdrew from the area and scampered to different directions, leaving their dead district commander, identified as a certain Mamah Dagay.

Dagay, according to 53rd IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Samuel Gayongorza, heads the 113 MILF Brigade based in Zambosur.

There were ten of them when they met a squad of Gayongorsa’s men led by 1Lt. Norley Oropesa.

Dagay yielded a M-16 rifle and a bandolier with four magazines.

Meanwhile in Lanao del Norte, elements from 8th IB of the 4th Infantry Division augmented to Task Force Bravo under Lt Col. Eric Venoya encountered some 50 rogue MILF rebels in Sitio Ilihan, Brgy Kaizar, Tagoloan Uno.

A firefight ensued between the military troops that caused the MILF rebels to retreat to the hinterlands.

The military said five of their comrades were wounded in the encounter while three MILF rebels were captured, identified as Julumodin Emam, Sangali Tabuacar and Samin Sarif.

The captured rebels were turned over to the PNP Lanao Command for proper disposition and filing of appropriate charges.
