CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Mayor Constantino Jaraula is pushing for the strengthening of the agricultural capacity of twelve hinterland barangays in the first district which are projected to become the remaining food basket in the city in the coming years.

This even as he met with the officials of the Cagayan de Oro City Water District (CWOD) and the Rio Verde Bulk Water Supply Company and discussed a possible partnership along a stable supply of water in the barangays beyond Lumbia.
The mayor pointed out that with the rapid urbanization that Cagayan de Oro is experiencing, the city government must also ensure that its agricultural areas are strengthened and fully developed to supply the city’s needs for staple food and other farm produce.
He added that essential to the development of the city’s agricultural barangays is a sustainable water system which is a crucial element in farming.
Jaraula told the representatives from COWD and Rio Verde to agree on which company shall provide the water needs of the 12 hinterland barangays.
The 12 hinterland barangays identified by Mayor Jaraula to be developed as the city’s food basket include Lumbia, Bayanga, Dansolihon, Mambuaya, Tignapoloan, Besigan, Taglimao, Tagpangi, Pagalungan, Tuburan, Pigsag-an and Tumpagon.
The development of the hinterland barangays is in line with Mayor Jaraula’s vision to alleviate the economic condition of the residents in the hinterlands and consequently promote reverse migration.
Another project that Mayor Jaraula wanted COWD and Rio Verde to collaborate is the supply of potable water in high-end subdivisions in the city.
Mayor Jaraula said that together with electricity and good road infrastructure networks, water supply is very important for real estate developers in the city to be able to attract prospective buyers.
The city chief executive scheduled a regular weekly meeting with the COWD and Rio Verde to ensure that these major concerns in the city’s development are promptly addressed.
